The final report of the Department of Communications and the Arts’ Review of the Australian Communications and Media Authority and the Government’s response was published today.
The ACMA notes the Review acknowledges the challenges facing the media and telecommunications industries, recognising the complex technology and commercial issues of the sectors the ACMA regulates.
‘The Review gives a strong positive endorsement of the ACMA’s performance, confirming a continuing need for a communications regulator with the capacity and powers to manage change over the next 10 years,’ said acting ACMA Chairman, Richard Bean.
The ACMA will review the report and develop a program to implement its recommendations, to commence shortly.
